Mexican American Legislative Caucus
-
BaileyHill Media launched the new website for the Mexican American Legislative Caucus of the Texas House of Representatives. This marked the completion of a larger project designed to update the Caucus’ presence on the internet and much of their offline materials. We partnered with our regular design partner, Sko Design Lab, for the creative requirements of the project.
The first step in the project was to develop a new logo for the organization. For many years the Caucus had used a derivative of the seal of the state of Texas. They requested the new logo be instantly identifiable with their organization, carry visual weight, and promote a professional image. The design was to feature Texas iconography such as the outline of the state itself or the capitol. Here are a few images of the initial rough draft composites for the logo.
The logo direction was subsequently narrowed based on feedback from our client. Here are a few of the second pass composites for the logo.
The Caucus’ Chairman Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer decided upon the current design style. The completed logo was accepted and used as the cornerstone of the new website design.
The final version of the new MALC logo
The previous design was dated at best, and hadn’t been refreshed in years. Additionally, the site did not take advantage of modern content management systems. This forced the Caucus staff to manually edit each webpage, adding additional time and fiscal overhead to a hard working staff. BaileyHill Media chose the open source platform, WordPress, for the foundation of the new site. Offering a robust community of developers and enthusiastic users, WordPress has become one of the most widely used platforms on the internet.
Similar to the logo, the new website design needed to be modern and appealing. The caucus wanted a site that was instantly recognizable, and continued the professional presence that was established with the new logo design. The experience designing the new logo gave our design team the familiarity with the client’s desires to produce the current design on the first pass.
With an accepted design, the creative portion of the project was complete. Our experienced development team took the creative, and built a website around it. Most of the development was fairly straightforward, thanks in a large part to the WordPress platform.
One of the highlights of the new site is that each legislative member has their own page which features personalized biographical information, member specific links, and updated news. Additionally we were able to integrate a twitter feed to encourage visitors to engage the elected members of the caucus on the popular social networking website.
BaileyHill Media is proud of the work we’ve done for the Mexican American Legislative Caucus. They are a great organization that deserved a great website to represent them. We were able to meet all of our project objectives by building a professional, instantly recognizable website on top of an easy to manage website framework.
